Thumbnail is the name given to mineral specimens 1 inch by 1 inch or less.
Many minerals occur only in very small amounts in one place, and specimens don’t lend themselves to the typical displays seen in museums. Sometimes there are just really good examples in a small size.
We are lucky enough to have a display of these specimens on loan from Ray Grant. They are displayed in a special case designed to allow easier viewing. We even provide magnifying glasses to see the minerals close up.
